Eminem is back this time and we are brought into the world of the triangle relationship. The one where there are two new lovebirds together and it becomes more of a vicious recant of The Tragedy of Othello. Given its varied, and enduring themes of love, jealousy, betrayal, revenge, and repentance. In this song featuring Ed Sheeran, Eminem clearly shows that it can happen to anyone at any time because humans are as spontaneous as they are dynamic.
The British director, Emil Nava, is not new to working with Ed Sheeran as he created the visuals for “Thinking Out Loud“. Emil’s debut with Eminem starts with him being interviewed about “What he thinks about relationships”, and then the story unfolds to the beauty of being in Love followed by the stigmatism of human flaws what it does to ruin what it has flourished. Nava does this by showing that both principals in the video had hidden demons of their own, one (Sarati) that is in the relationship out of spite to their last relationship and the other (Eminem) who is using her as an escape to his routines/hectic life. Towards the end, the love interest Suzanne, played by Sarati, reveals that she is pregnant and other issues of acceptance and responsibility are adapted to the triangle.
We can always count on Eminem to lyrically paint pictures for us and Emil Nava has been honing his craft to paint the visual picture. In this docu-cinematic rendering, we believe that both hit the nail on the coffin. Reminder Eminem’s Revival which is ninth studio album was released on December 15, 2017, through Aftermath Entertainment, Shady Records, and Interscope Records. Grab it listen to it on iTunes, Tidalor Spotify.
