Sorinn Lillico
Texas native, Sorinn Lillico (b.1996) is an African-American abstract and performance artist who primarily works with mixed media on canvas. Lillico lives and works in New York City. Inspired by art from the Stone Age, he is concerned with symbols and painterly gestures that relate to wide notions and experiences of humanity. Such images communicated across countries and centuries: bones, skulls, chains, crosses, the abstracted human figure. In his work, skulls represent life and death, linked chains represent human connection, and crosses allude to his Christian religious faith. Lillico utilizes these relatable and universal symbols to serve as a point of departure for viewers to have a conversation with themselves and those around them.
